Marilyn (Andie MacDowell), a grieving American mother coming to terms with her only son's death, serendipitously meets Ria (Olivia Williams), an Irish wife recently dumped by her husband for his much younger, pregnant girlfriend. Through a chance phone call, the two meet and agree to swap houses for the summer, knowing virtually nothing about the other, and strive to find strength and healing amid new surroundings.
