Tarnation

  (2004)
Culled from 19 years of his life, filmmaker Jonathan Caouette's documentary about growing up with his schizophrenic mother is a mixture of snapshots, Super-8 footage, answering machine messages, video diaries, early short films and more. By turns, Caouette is ambivalent about his mother's condition, expressing both love and pain for her -- and, bravely, admitting the fact that there's more than one truth on view here.
