A naive cart driver's bond with a beautiful but jaded Nautanki performer leads to a crossroads in this classic Bollywood drama directed by Basu Bhattacharya. When Hiraman (Raj Kapoor) agrees to give Hira Bai (Waheeda Rehman) a ride to a fair that's 40 miles away, they develop an unusual kinship along the way, and he becomes embroiled in her life. But will his decision to defend her honor bring them closer or tear them apart?
