Originally from Philadelphia, independent-minded teacher Sara Yarnell (Brenda Vaccaro) heads to the frontier town of Independence, Colo., to experience pioneer life in the late 1800s. As she adjusts to her new surroundings, she starts a relationship with a wealthy businessman from Boston named Charles Harrington (Sam Groom), while two of her students, Harvey and Maude Thompson, complicate the budding romance.
