Dan (William Holden) and Tod (Glenn Ford), a gritty pair of drifters just out of the Confederate Army at the end of the Civil War, travel from Kansas to Texas together in search of adventure and a few greenbacks. But after arriving in Texas, they fall on opposite sides of the law following a cattle theft; Dan leads a group of rustlers, while Tod helps the swindled rancher fend off the bad guys.
