After their daughter moves out on her own, Bob (Alun Armstrong) and Julie (Lindsey Coulson) are still adjusting to their empty nest when the world is rocked by the incident at Chernobyl. With room in their home and hearts, they take in two young girls displaced by the disaster. The couple's lives are renewed as they help the children adapt to their new home, but both know the day will come when the girls must return to their native Belarus.
