The Late Show
(1977)|
Ira (Art Carney), a sixty-something gumshoe who lives in a run-down boardinghouse, tries to help loopy Margo (Lily Tomlin) find her missing cat. But the case of the purloined feline soon leads Ira to a man who might be responsible for the death of the detective's partner. The comic chemistry between Carney and Tomlin in this neo-noir film is potent, as is writer-director Robert Benton's breezy script.
