The Well

  (1951)
When an African-American girl disappears from a segregated community, a white man passing through (Harry Morgan) is suspected of harming the child. Tempers flare as the girl's family suspects a racially motivated cover-up, but when the town learns that she's tumbled down a well, blacks and whites work together to rescue her. This Academy Award-nominated film still resonates decades after its release in the racially supercharged 1950s.
