The Best Man

  (1964)
Gore Vidal's The Best Man
Though this political satire was made decades ago, the election-year backbiting and smear campaigns at the film's core will be as familiar to today's audiences as they were to those of decades past. Lee Tracy copped an Oscar nod for his turn as an ailing president who refuses to endorse his party's candidates, and Henry Fonda and Cliff Robertson play the men vying for the top slot. The supporting cast includes Ann Sothern and Edie Adams.
