Director Antonio Hernández paints a subdued portrait of the duplicitous Borgia clan in this riveting drama that follows the family fortunes after despotic patriarch Rodrigo (Lluís Homar) becomes the new pontiff. To expand his power, Rodrigo makes son César (Sergio Peris-Mencheta) a cardinal, sends son Juan (Sergio Múñiz) into the army and orchestrates politically expedient unions for son Jofré (Eloy Azorín) and daughter Lucrecia (María Valverde).
