An ill-fated bridge crossing and a destiny with death are the ties that bind the characters in this 1929 film, winner of an Academy Award for Art Direction and the first of many celluloid versions. Directed by Charles Brabin and based on Thornton Wilder's epic saga, The Bridge of San Luis Rey is set in Peru, where a suspension bridge fails, sending the train traversing over it to a horrid finish. Lili Damita and Ernest Torrence star.
