Made while its director, Luis Buñuel, was exiled in Mexico, The Brute employs the melodrama form to explore themes of lust and oppression in this tale of a strong but simpleminded man who's hired by an evil landlord to intimidate his tenants. Things get complicated when Bruto (Pedro Armendáriz) falls first for the landlord's wife and then for the daughter of one of the tenants. Katy Jurardo and Rosa Arenas co-star.
