The Carpetbaggers

This 1964 blockbuster, based on Harold Robbins's best-selling novel and loosely based on Howard Hughes's life, chronicles the financial rise and moral descent of half-cocked entrepreneur Jonas Cord (George Peppard). After his tyrannical father dies, Jonas becomes a hard-drinking investment tycoon who ends up pinning his hopes on the movie industry. But his life soon spirals out of control, and he's forced to face his demons before it's too late.
