Michel Descombes (Philippe Noiret) is a quiet, unassuming watchmaker who learns from the police that his son Bernard (Sylvain Rougerie) is the primary suspect in a murder case. Realizing he knows very little about his son, Michel sets about investigating Bernard's life to learn what makes him tick. This cinematic thriller based on Georges Simenon's novel was a feature debut for director Bertrand Tavernier.
