The Desert of the Tartars

Stationed in a remote desert fort anticipating a Tartar invasion that will never come, Lt. Drogo (Jacques Perrin) and his comrades begin to fall apart in Valerio Zurlini's adaptation of Dino Buzzati's controversial 1938 novel. As the days turn into months, Drogo dreams of heroic deeds in battle, while his fellow soldiers go stir-crazy. Cast members Vittorio Gasman, Max Von Sydow, Philippe Noiret and Fernando Rey lend solid support.
