Adapted from Wallace Shawn's acclaimed play, this film centers on a series of monologues delivered by three characters -- Jack (Mike Nichols), a journalist; his wife, Judy (Miranda Richardson); and her father, Howard (David de Keyser). Living in a politically repressive country that executes intellectuals, the three mourn the life of the mind, sharing perspectives on a range of topics -- from culture and class to sex and morality.
