The Edge of the World
(1937)|
John Laurie and Finlay Currie star as two family patriarchs struggling over the future of an isolated island community, whose traditional way of life is slowly dying as its young men are increasingly drawn to the modern cities of the mainland. But as the two families begin to disagree, evacuation of the island may become inevitable. Director Michael Powell shot this highly personal film on Foula, one of the Shetland Islands north of Scotland.
