The Family Game

  (1983)
In this eviscerating send-up of the directionless (and soulless) Japanese middle class of the late 20th century, director Yoshimitsu Morita focuses on one four-member family living in extremely close quarters in a Tokyo high-rise. When the parents hire a tutor to coach their youngest son, the whole family ends up learning some lessons at the hands of his instructor in this biting commentary on a money- and class-obsessed society.
