The Flame and the Arrow

In medieval Italy, mercenary Dardo Bartoli (Burt Lancaster) rebels against the Hessian occupation. When his ex-wife (Lynne Baggett) takes up with an enemy leader (Robert Douglas), Dardo kidnaps the man's comely niece (Virginia Mayo), raising the stakes on both sides. The conflict escalates until Dardo volunteers to sacrifice himself to save his country. Aline MacMahon also stars in director Jacques Tourneur's swashbuckling historical epic.
