Bluegrass icons Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs displayed their virtuoso talents during their long-running series, which ran from 1955 until 1969, and featured their band, the Foggy Mountain Boys, and guest stars such as Mother Maybelle Carter. While Scruggs's fingers flew over his banjo, Flatt matched him lick for lick on guitar, and they cemented bluegrass as a vibrant genre that transformed its old-world roots into uniquely American music.
