The Gladiator / Wide Open Faces
(1938)|
In this duo of classic comedies from the 1930s, funnyman Joe E. Brown shows off his unique slapstick style -- and gets in way over his head in some sticky situations -- as an overeager athlete and a naïve soda jerk. In The Gladiator, Brown portrays a college student who goes to laughable lengths to become a sports star and impress his football-hero dad. Wide Open Faces features Brown as a simple soda-fountain boy who gets mixed up with the mob.
