A lonely, discontented housewife, Marge (Rachel Ward), lives an unexciting life in the Australian Outback with her dull-witted husband (Bryan Brown). When a new man (Sam Neill) arrives and gives Marge one chance -- and only one chance -- to accept his proposition, Marge refuses, but gradually becomes consumed with lust for him. Having let opportunity pass her by, Marge's desperation grows, threatening her marriage, reputation and very stability.
