The Great Race

  (1965)
Professional daredevil Leslie Gallant (Tony Curtis) convinces turn-of-the-century automakers that a race from New York to Paris will help promote car sales. Leslie's archrival, Prof. Fate (Jack Lemmon), vows to beat Leslie to the finish line in a car of Fate's own invention. What ensues is the wackiest transcontinental road race ever, directed by Blake Edwards and co-starring Natalie Wood. The film won an Oscar for Best Sound Effects.
