Elegant John (Henry Fonda) is a soon-to-be-retired trucker who manages to have his precious eighteen-wheeler repossessed just before his very last haul. Already in trouble with the law, he digs a deeper hole for himself by stealing his truck back from authorities and doing a favor for his former girlfriend Penelope (Eileen Brennan), now a madam, by packing the rig full of hookers anxious to cross the border. A young Susan Sarandon co-stars.
