Growing up under the thumb of their strict father (Oscar winner Walter Brennan), the Matthews children are discouraged from doing anything that could be considered "modern" -- including joining the local 4-H club or dating boys. But when their father's fear of progress ultimately confines him to his bed, it's up to eldest daughter Deborah (Marguerite Chapman) to save their farm from utter ruin. Natalie Wood co-stars.
