Betty Lou Perkins (Penelope Ann Miller) is a mousy, small-town librarian who confesses to a murder she didn't commit just to get attention (her own detective husband has been ignoring her). But her plea has uproarious (and unexpected) consequences as a new, sexy Betty Lou finds herself capturing headlines, dancing in nightclubs, outwitting the mob and being applauded by the town.
