The Human Voice

  (1966)
Legendary actress Ingrid Bergman shines in this 1966 production of playwright Jean Cocteau's one-act drama that deftly captures the despair of a jilted middle-aged woman through a succession of interrupted phone conversations with her young ex-lover. Her hopes of saving the relationship begin to crumble -- as does her already fragile emotional state -- with a mounting suspicion that he's calling from the home of his new fiancée.
