Burt Reynolds stars as Clayton Samuels, the tyrannical patriarch of a backwoods family of Georgia moonshiners. The arrival of troubled World War I veteran Turner (Keith Carradine) threatens Clayton's reign over the region -- and his control of adult daughter Florence Irene (Hayley DuMond), who falls in love with Turner. An escalating rivalry between Clayton and Turner soon leads to bloodshed in director Richard Weinman's Depression-era drama.
