Corrupt town bigwig Steve Barat (Albert Dekker) appoints John Bonniwell (Richard Dix) as marshal after he successfully runs the villainous James Gang out of Broken Lance. But Bonniwell defiantly refuses to help the unscrupulous Barat commit his evil deeds and soon becomes the target of Barat's cronies and brother, Jeff (Victor Jory). In a romantic subplot, Bonniwell and Jeff compete for the attentions of fetching Eleanor Sager (Jane Wyatt).
