When Prohibition ends, Chicago bootlegger Bugs Ahearn (Edward G. Robinson) moves to Santa Barbara to weasel his way into West Coast high society. He rents a posh villa and wins a lovely lady (Helen Vinson), only to discover the scams she's running put his own operation to shame. Roy Del Ruth directs this delightful send-up of gangster films that also stars Mary Astor, Kenneth Thomson and Russell Hopton.
