Kenneth Branagh directs this mesmerizing film adaptation of Mozart's "The Magic Flute" that sets the action just before World War I, turning Tamino (Joseph Kaiser) into a brave young soldier who must rescue the beautiful Pamina (Amy Carson) from her evil captor, Sarastro. Aiding him on his quest to bring the Queen of the Night's daughter home is Papageno, a canary keeper who cares for the birds used to find noxious gases in the trenches.
