Ernst Lubitsch's final musical -- which won an Oscar for Best Art Direction -- stars Jeanette MacDonald as Sonia, the wealthiest widow in Marshovia, and Maurice Chevalier as her suitor, Count Danilo. When Sonia realizes that the count has been romancing half the kingdom, she flees to Paris. But because the mythical Eastern European nation will go bankrupt without her tax income, the count sets out to bring Sonia, and her money, back home.
