A scientist commits suicide after he's caught spying for communists. Disbelieving his colleague's willful act of treason, Dr. Longman (Dirk Bogarde) becomes convinced the man was brainwashed and sets out to uncover the truth. Using himself as a test subject, Longman conducts a series of brainwashing experiments with frightening results. Writer James Kennaway based the story on actual accounts of mind-control efforts during the Cold War.
