Fang Kang (Yu Wang) is the most skilled student at a martial arts school but scorned by his peers because of his lowly origins. When he decides to leave, the master's selfish daughter Pei-er (Yin Tze Pan) demands a duel. He agrees to fight with bare hands, and when he wins, the bitter Pei-er severs his arm with a sword. Despite the debilitating injury, Fang eventually learns to become a master of one-armed combat in this kung fu classic.
