A Jesuit priest, Dr. Joachim Ferrer (Gerard Depardieu), finds his religious career on the line when he happens upon a young nun at a hospital who exhibits symptoms of major emotional and mental trauma and has repressed it for far too long. Only her twin sister knows what her secret is, one she shares herself. In no time, Dr. Ferrer grows obsessed with uncovering the truth, putting his faith on the line.
