In this romantic comedy, Dottie Perez (Marisa Tomei), a Cuban woman, longs for a very American life, one that centers on rock 'n' roll music and cowboys. Juan Raul Perez (Alfred Molina) seeks to be reunited with his wife, Carmela (Anjelica Huston), in America. When Dottie and Juan are rescued from a failed boat lift, the two are listed as married ... which complicates their American dreams quite a bit!
