Penned by Tennessee Williams, this bittersweet tale of a widowed Italian woman living in the South focuses on recluse Serafina (Anna Magnani), who longs for her dead husband, but finds she's unable to cope after learning of his infidelities. Fragile and depressed, Serafina serendipitously meets Alvaro (Burt Lancaster), whose zest ignites her desire to live life to its fullest. This drama scored three Oscars, including Best Actress for Magnani.
