All-star casts shine in BBC productions of two plays by Anton Chekhov. The Seagull stars Stephen Rea as struggling avant-garde playwright Constantin. As the curtain rises on his latest work, the interference of his mother (Zoe Caldwell) and her lover (Michael Gambon) threatens to eclipse its success. In An Artist's Story, Anton (Patrick Stewart), a painter, debates his role as an observer of life with a charity worker devoted to social change.
