When 10-year-old Samuel (Iván Carreira) and his recently divorced mother move to Havana to live with his grandmother, life changes immensely for the boy on the cusp of adolescence in this Cuban coming-of-age drama from director Pavel Giroud. Using the melodrama surrounding life in an eccentrically dysfunctional middle-class household to shine a light on the discord in pre-Castro Cuban society, the film has become a festival favorite.
