Henry James's novel comes to life in this miniseries about the wealthy Gereth family. When her husband dies, Mrs. Gereth (Pauline Jameson) argues with her carefree son, Owen (Ian Ogilvy), over the family estate and his desire to marry for love, not money. Gemma Jones (Bridget Jones's Diary, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets) stars as Fleda Vetch, a friend of the Gereths' who gets caught up in the power struggle between mother and son.
