The Steamroller and the Violin

  (1960)
Katok i skripka
Opposites sometimes attract, which is the premise of Russian director Andrei Tarkovsky's lyrical rumination about the improbable friendship between sensitive young Sasha (Igor Fomchenko), who plays the violin, and macho Sergei (Vladimir Zamansky), who drives a steamroller. Shying away from sentiment, the film provides an ironic look at two people who bridge generational differences to form a powerful and lasting bond.
