Isabelle Adjani earned a César Award (France's version of the Oscar) for her portrayal of Adèle Hugo, the daughter of novelist Victor Hugo, whose unrequited obsession with a British soldier led her on an intercontinental odyssey into madness. Based on Adèle's own diary entries, this tragic tale details the young woman's self-destruction as she hopelessly pursues the object of her infatuation from Guernsey to Nova Scotia and the West Indies.
