The Subject Was Roses

World War II veteran Timmy Cleary (Martin Sheen) returns from the conflict only to get caught in the crossfire between his incessantly squabbling parents, Nettie (Patricia Neal) and John (Jack Albertson, who copped a Best Supporting Actor Oscar). As long-held grievances -- including suspected infidelity and John's alcoholism -- come to the fore, Timmy tries to change the family dynamic and the acrimonious environment that plagued his youth.
