Helene (Stephane Audran) is the bored wife of insurance executive Charles Desvallées (Michel Bouquet). When Charles suspects Helene of cheating on him, he locates her lover and attacks him in a jealous rage, making the mercurial Helene more in love with her husband than ever before. Written and directed by Claude Chabrol, this film was the inspiration for Unfaithful, an American adaptation starring Diane Lane and Richard Gere.
