Alfre Woodard narrates this moving documentary about the 1839 revolt aboard the slave ship La Amistad. News items, letters, drawings and dramatic readings by Charles Durning and Brock Peters chronicle the enslaved Africans who took over the Amistad, were captured off New York City's coast and then put on trial. Interviews include historian Cheryl Johnson-Odim and Clifton H. Johnson, director of Tulane University's Amistad Research Center.
