War is in the air on Walton's Mountain in a sixth season that's nonetheless filled with homecomings, as John Boy (Richard Thomas) visits from New York; Grandma (Ellen Corby) comes home from the hospital; and Mary Ellen (Judy Norton-Taylor) and her husband welcome a son into the world. Meanwhile, a group of soldiers trains on the Walton property, and the Blue Ridge Mountains become home for some British children fleeing the blitz of World War II.
