The Wildcat

  (1921)
The wildly seductive Pola Negri plays the leader of a band of mountain bandits who falls in love with a lugubrious Bavarian officer in this early slapstick comedy from legendary German director Ernst Lubitsch. Visually stunning and filled with oddball compositions and photographic tricks, the film (shot in Bavaria, where the director liked to winter) is a blunt satire of militarism -- a rarity in post-World War I Germany.
