The Wooden Man's Bride

This story examines the harsh customs in 1920s rural China as a young woman (Lan Wang) makes a scary journey to her arranged marriage. Upon arrival at her new home, she learns her fiancé is dead, but his mother, Madame Liu (Yumei Wang), expects her to honor the marriage anyway and weds the girl to a statue of her son. Caving under the pressure, the girl begins an affair with a young man, putting both tradition and their lives in jeopardy.
