After her boyfriend dumps her by telephone from Europe, Ann (Lili Taylor) makes a half-hearted attempt to kill herself. Realizing she needs support, she calls a suicide hotline and talks to Don (Andrew McCarthy), a slightly jaded volunteer. Feeling drawn to her, Don learns Ann's identity and starts forging a tentative relationship with her. Meanwhile, Ann continues to pine for her ex, making and sending him videos in an attempt to win him back.
