Vengeance takes a circuitous route in this Claude Chabrol film. A young boy dies in a car accident, and his father, Charles (Michel Duchaussoy), vows to find the culprit and kill him. Luck and determination lead him to Helene (Caroline Cellier), the sister-in-law of Paul (Jean Yanne), the man Charles thinks killed his son. Charles seduces Helene to get to Paul, but in the end he must team up with Paul's hateful son, Philippe, to exact his revenge.
